Syria and the U.Mess.

I am Canadian, not American. I am a retired journalist, nothing more.

Admittedly, it is easy for me to say that the U.S. should invade Syria, put an end to this absurd war against a government its people don't want and introduce the principle of democracy to a country that has lost thousands of lives to a dictator.

But this would hardly be a precedent.

The U.S. invaded Iraq. It has forcefully assumed control in Afghanistan, supported by Britain, Canada and UN forces. Iran remains an unchecked threat. That whole Middle Eastern region is a powder keg full of political and religious chaos.

The U.S. has TRIED to assert its power there, but the region refuses to listen. Words are mere words. The U.S. is talking big and despite the fact it IS the world's biggest Superpower by its own making, it is talking a lot and saying very little.

At the park as a little kid, or in nature, if the Leader of the Pack wants to remain that, they have to assert their power. Talking and threatening won't do it. Their words will, eventually, fall on deaf ears.

By letting this go this far without involvement, the U.S. has relinquished its power. There is a well known saying: "When the cat's away, the mice will play."
